Cultural Humility: An Important Dimension of the Holistic Health Approach

Öz

The concept of cultural humility includes awareness of diversity and how an individual's culture can influence health behaviors. Healthcare professionals can use this awareness to develop sensitive, individual-specific and person-centered approaches to individual/patient care, ultimately contributing to a positive healthcare experience. Diversity is a concept increasingly emphasized in the healthcare field. Cultural humility is used in a variety of contexts, from individuals with cultural differences to gender differences, social status, interprofessional roles, health professional/individual/patient/family relationships. Cultural humility qualities are openness, self-awareness, self-reflection, self-evaluation, self-criticism, non-egocentrism, supportive interactions, and evaluation of biases. The premises of the term cultural humility are diversity and power imbalance. The results of cultural humility are mutual empowerment, partnerships, respect, optimal care and lifelong learning. Cultural humility is a lifelong process. In the multicultural world where there is power diversity, separation and power imbalances, the concept of cultural humility is the concept of openness, openness, self-awareness, non-egocentrism in interaction with individuals, openness and self-awareness, which includes self-reflection and self-criticism after communicating with individuals from different cultures. It is a lifelong process that enables healthcare professionals to become knowledgeable about different cultures and to be sensitive to cultural diversity. Due to the increasing diversity of the world's interaction with different cultures, the importance of competence, competence and cultural humility in the cultural approach in the professional world has become more evident. This article aims to discuss the concept of cultural humility in the holistic health approach.

Kültürel Alçak Gönüllülük: Bütünsel Sağlık Yaklaşımının Önemli Bir Boyutu

Öz

Kültürel alçak gönüllülük kavramı, çeşitlilik ve bireyin kültürünün sağlık davranışlarını nasıl etkileyebileceğine dair farkındalığı içerir. Sağlık profesyonelleri bu farkındalığı birey/hasta bakımına yönelik hassas, bireye özel ve birey merkezli yaklaşımlar geliştirmek için kullanabilir ve sonuçta olumlu bir sağlık hizmeti deneyimine katkıda bulunabilir. Çeşitlilik, sağlık alanında giderek daha fazla vurgulanan bir kavramdır. Kültürel alçak gönüllülük, kültürel farklılıklara sahip bireylerden cinsiyet farklılıklarına, sosyal statüye, meslekler arası rollere, sağlık profesyoneli/birey/ hasta/ aile ilişkilerine kadar çeşitli bağlamlarda kullanılmaktadır. Kültürel alçak gönüllülük nitelikleri açıklık, öz farkındalık, öz yansıtma, öz değerlendirme, öz eleştiri, benmerkezci olmama, destekleyici etkileşimler, ön yargılarını değerlendirmedir. Kültürel alçak gönüllülük teriminin öncülleri çeşitlilik ve güç dengesizliğidir. Kültürel alçak gönüllülüğün sonuçları ise karşılıklı yetkilendirme, ortaklıklar, saygı, optimal bakım ve yaşam boyu öğrenmedir. Kültürel alçak gönüllülük yaşam boyu devam eden bir süreçtir. Güç çeşitliliğinin, ayrılıklarının ve güç dengesizliklerinin olduğu çok kültürlü dünyada kültürel alçak gönüllülük kavramı, bireylerle etkileşimde açıklık, açık olma, öz farkındalık, benmerkezci olmama, farklı kültürden bireylerle iletişim sonrasında öz yansıtma ve öz eleştiriyi kapsayan açık olma, öz farkındalık kavramıdır. Sağlık profesyonellerinin farklı kültürler konusunda bilgi sahibi olmalarını ve kültür çeşitliliğine duyarlı olmalarını sağlayan yaşam boyunca devam eden bir süreçtir. Dünyanın farklı kültürlerin birbiri ile etkileşiminin artan çeşitliliği nedeni ile profesyonel dünyadaki kültürel yaklaşımda yetkinlik, yeterlilik, kültürel alçak gönüllülüğün önemi daha da belirginleşmiştir. Bu makalede, bütünsel sağlık yaklaşımında kültürel alçak gönüllülük kavramını tartışmak amaçlanmıştır.
